Welcome!

We’re delighted you’re interested in joining Spoken Outdoors for an outdoor experience. Whether this is your first trip or you’ve attended before, we look forward to sharing this experience with you.

A day with Spoken Outdoors is a chance to simply exhale. Surrounded by nature and fellow first responders who understand the realities of service, you’ll find space to connect, reflect, and recharge—without the pressure to perform or carry the weight of others.

Many participants leave feeling refreshed, understood, and reminded they are not alone.

First Responders with Spoken Outdoors on Kootenai River
River trip at Launch

Most Day Trips Take Place on the Koonenai River.

Most day trips will take place on the upper Kootenai River, beginning and ending at Twin Rivers. There usually will be 6-8 other first responders who have been selected for the trip.

We’ll meet at 7AM, where you’ll park your vehicle for the day. Here you’ll meet your Spoken Outdoors team, river guides, and other participants. From there you’ll carpool to the boat launch location with your guides, and by 8AM you’ll be on the river. After a quick lesson in how to cast a fly rod and how to catch a fish, you’ll enjoy 7-8 hours of fishing. A riverside catered lunch will be provided. You’ll have a day of fun, sun, and occasionally rain.

More Details

All we ask is you dress for the weather – sunburns and soaked tee-shirts are not a requirement of the day.

Fishing gear is fully provided. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided.

We gladly work with individuals to accommodate accessibility needs, dietary restrictions, and other considerations—including providing access to the Inland Northwest’s only wheelchair-accessible drift boat—so that everyone feels welcomed, supported, and able to enjoy the healing power of the outdoors.

“What I experienced on this trip with Spoken Outdoors was unlike anything I have experienced before.  It is difficult to put into words the level of stress reduction one experiences when you know that everyone in attendance knows what it’s like to walk in your shoes and you can drop your guard.  Many, if not all, have had the same, or similar experiences, and they understand and appreciate each other for who they are and what they have been through.  You can talk about anything without fear of judgement. Spoken Outdoors provides incredibly unique opportunities where first responders can truly ‘drop their guard’ and ‘let their hair down’, not be worried about what others think, and just simply enjoy each other’s company and the great outdoors.” – Muddy, Ret.
